Measure Twice, Sleep Once

Before you fall in love with a size, ensure it loves your room back. A well-proportioned bed enhances the flow and feel of your space. We recommend at least 24-30 inches (60-75cm) of walking space around the sides and foot of the bed.

  1. Map It Out: Use painter's tape to mark the bed's dimensions on your floor. This helps visualize its footprint.
  2. Check Pathways: Ensure you can easily walk around the bed and access closets, doors, and dressers.
  3. Consider Height: Note the locations of windowsills and outlets, especially when choosing a headboard height.

Considering the Third Dimension

The height of your bed and headboard dramatically impacts the room's visual balance and your comfort.

Frame & Mattress Height

The total height of your bed (frame + mattress) affects both aesthetics and ease of use. A lower profile often feels more modern and minimalist, while a higher bed can feel more traditional and grand. A good rule of thumb is to aim for a height where your feet can comfortably rest on the floor when seated on the edge.

Headboard Proportions

A headboard is a key design element. A tall, statement headboard works best in rooms with high ceilings, acting as a dramatic focal point. In rooms with lower ceilings, a shorter headboard can help the space feel larger and less crowded. Consider the scale of your room to choose a headboard that complements, rather than overwhelms, the space.

Queen vs. King: Visualizing the Difference

The most common dilemma. A King bed offers 16 inches of extra width over a Queen. This translates to 8 extra inches of personal space per person—the same width as a Twin bed. For couples, this can mean the difference between a cozy night's sleep and an undisturbed, luxurious rest, especially if you share the bed with pets or children.

A Note on International Sizes

Bed and mattress dimensions can vary by region. While our primary offerings are in US sizes, we want to provide clarity for our global customers.

Size Name US Dimensions (in) UK Dimensions (cm) EU Dimensions (cm)
Twin / Single 38" x 75" 90 x 190 cm 90 x 200 cm
Full / Double 54" x 75" 135 x 190 cm 140 x 200 cm
Queen / King 60" x 80" 150 x 200 cm (King) 160 x 200 cm
King / Super King 76" x 80" 180 x 200 cm (Super King) 180 x 200 cm

Note: Names can be misleading (e.g., a US Queen is similar to a UK King). Always confirm dimensions before purchasing bedding. All DreamWeave frames are built to US standard mattress dimensions.
